Beautiful and atmospheric, c1940’s classical ballet scene of three dancers on stage.

Painted in oils by listed Australian artist Ambrose Sylvester Griffin (1912-1980). Known for his Australian landscape painting (one of which resides in the Art Gallery NSW) this is an unusual subject in the artists career, and came to us as a set of three ballet scenes.

Ambrose Griffin studied at the National Gallery School Melboune under Septimus Power, and was a member of the Royal Art Society NSW.

Oil on canvas, signed lower right Ambrose Griffin, original side studding to the stretcher. The painting sits in its original gilt wood & gesso frame, with aged patina.

Frame Measures: 49cm high, 57cm wide.

Canvas Measures: 41cm high, 48cm wide.
