French c1920’s oil on canvas painting ‘The Gleaners’ after Jean-Francois Millet (1814-1875).
The original painted by the French artist Jean-Francois Millet (1814-1875) in 1857 and resides in the Musee d’Orsay. One of Millets best known works. Its unusually large scale and depiction of peasant women working the fields created controversy and unease amongst the upper classes upon its unveiling at the Paris Salon in 1857.
