French c1850 Portrait of a Marseille Gent with Yellow Waistcoat. Sourced in Marseille, South of France.
Unusually, he is not wearing a cravat, his shirt top button is undone in a somewhat laissez faire manner. We like to think that perhaps he rolled from a Marseille bar to his sitting appointment with the portrait artist, losing his cravat along the way!
The portrait is of striking proportion and brings the charismatic presence of the sitter to any interior.
Measures including frame: 64.5cm high, 56cm wide.
Great original condition, some minor paint loss to the canvas edges. Ready to hang.
