She is sitting slightly side on, whilst gazing directly at the artist with a wonderful bemused expression.
Oil on canvas, the painting sits in its original gilt wood and gesso frame. The frame is weighty and highly decorative; the canvas has had past restorations (in England) and is wax lined verso.
