An evocative c1900 South Australian landscape, by the British Australian landscape artist Ernest William Christmas (1863-1918).
Born in Yankalilla to English immigrant parents, Ernest studied in Adelaide, Sydney & London. Throughout his life and painting career he travelled extensively and exhibited at the Royal Academy London, New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts and the British Royal Society to which he was elected a member. He died after settling in Hawaii in 1918.
Oil on canvas board, signed lower left. The painting sits in its gold wooden tapered frame.
