Mid Century Australian Landscape titled ‘Facade’ by listed Australian female artist Mary Beeston (1917-2002).

Born in Melbourne, she studied at Newcastle Technical College; embarked on the obligatory European Art education/tour; then settled in the Hunter Valley region, marrying fellow artist Larry Beeston.

The artist couple are well known in the region for their collaborative (with textile artist Rachrl Frecker) and seminal tapestry work

‘The Hunter Tapestry’; commissioned by Newcastle University it now hangs in their Great Hall.

Mary Beeston’s oil painting ‘Cooks Crossing’  was a finalist in the 1960 AGNSW Wynne prize.

Her work is represented at the Newcastle Art Gallery and Newcastle University.
