An Australian desert landscape, in blush neutral tones. Attributed to the Australian female artist Dorothy Elizabeth Toovey (1898-1986).
Born in Bathurst, she studied at the Royal Art Society Sydney, and the National Gallery School Victoria, and the Academie Julien Paris (Julian Ashton). Known for her portraits and landscapes, she travelled throughout Europe and South America, and undertook a caravan tour of Central and Western Australia; its probable that this painting is from that period of travelling through Australias desert outback.
Her works are held in numerous regional galleries as well as the Art Gallery NSW and the National Portrait Gallery.
Provenance: Purchased from an Australian auction house , from the estate of the late Dora Toovey.
Oil on canvas laid on board. The painting sits in its beautiful French style carved wooden frame.
